Bei diesem Lied handelt es sich gar nicht um ein Advents- oder Weihnachtslied, Es ist eher in die Kategorie Winterlied einzuordnen. Der Organisten James Pierpont, USA, textete und komponierte es 1857.
Im Lied geht es zwar um klingelnde Glöckchen jedoch nicht um Weihnachtsglocken. Es ist vielmehr inspiriert von jugendlichen Pferdeschlittenrennen. Jingle bells sind die Schellen am Pferdegeschirr. Auf deutsch lautet der Refrain in etwa „Glöckchenläuten, Glöckchenläuten, oh welche Freude macht die Pferdeschlittenfahrt.“
